Some of the images from my old   website are poor, and this particularly applies to these images from Florida, the equipment I was using at the time was not well suited to macro photography. I had a micro palm size video/still camera, 3Mpx and a very tiny, tiny lens. I bought it on I-Drive as a stop gap, as Orlando had revived my interest in taking macro shots of insects again.   A year later, I purchased a 5Mpx camcorder, which also took stills, again on I-Drive. With this I made some exciting videos of the families adventures in Florida. Sadly it wasn't much better at macro stills than the first one.

Some of the butterflies I saw were spectacular, but the some of images were poor, so I got around it a few years later. However you may find a sample of butterflies from Florida interesting. Many of the photographs from Orlando were taken in the landscaped grounds of two hotels, The Holiday Inn, and The Travel Lodge. Quite a few of the Pictures were taken in theme parks such as, Sea World, Universal Studio's, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Universal Islands of Adventure and Animal Kingdom. We also visited the Everglades, Naples, Tampa, the Kennedy Space Centre amongst others.

During May 2008 we took a trip out to Busch Gardens, at Tampa Bay on the west coast. The park is a combination of wild rides, zoo, wildlife park and rough uncultivated area's. You can bet that I visited the wilder spots, where I shot several pictures. I followed a Pipevine Swallowtail for quite a long time, but couldn't get close enough to get a picture. However I took a picture of her eggs which she had laid on a Pipevine, which I eagerly photographed. While in the park I got a sun bleached picture of a Fiery Skipper. We observed many butterflies around the park, but it was so hot, they were hyper active.

(Linnaeus) (Drury) (Boisduval) (Linnaeus)

My first year in Florida was a great adventure. and as we progressed through the years visiting Florida the adventures just got better. This is probably in part down to the fact we had now found our way around. Though I hate to admit it, regretfully, we are now getting to old for ultra fast, super high roller coasters. As such it's unlikely that we will return to Orlando. If you go to Florida perhaps you might let me know what insects you found. You can tell me, but please don't inundate me with emails, instead contact me via Twitter, I read tweet's several times a day, my address is @DaveHatton16
